The hard part
Phoebe just fell asleep for her nap, after a 15-minute protest that shredded my guts and what pass for my eardrums. I actually relented at first and took her out of the crib for one lullaby in the rocking chair. She was so calm and peaceful at the end of the song, I thought maybe she'd go down peacefully. No such luck. She started screaming again right away, holding up her arms, begging to be taken out of the crib. I knew I couldn't give in, but as you all know, it's so hard. I couldn't turn my back on her, so I walked backwards out of the room, as if taking leave of the Queen. She's peacefully asleep now. I'll look back on this moment and smile when she's a teenager and I can't get her out of bed, but right now it's the pits.
