Sightseeing notes

The weather has been magnificent the whole trip, except for the day we arrived in Tyumen (last Wednesday). We took several nice walks through Tyumen's center on Friday and Saturday. The city center is very pleasant. The Central Square is dominated by the regional parliament (Tyumen is the capital of the largest oblast, or region, in Russia), which is housed in a building whose masonry still bears the title Дом Советов (Dome Sovyetof, or House of Soviets).

In the center of the square is a large statue of Lenin.

Behind Central Square is a small amusement park, which is just a two minute walk from Phoebe's first home. We're not sure if she had ever been taken to the amusement park, but we spent a nice hour there walking around. Phoebe loved being able to just run in the grass, but I had Alesa stop her for a quick photo:

Her 2T jeans are a little too big for her (we had a hard time knowing what to take, size-wise, and erred on the too big side). With these jeans, that's a good thing, because they're really cute and she'll be able to wear them for a while now.

Jeff, Alesa, and Phoebe - WELCOME HOME to you all!!! It has been especially nice to be able to share your experiences through your blog, and to be able to be a part of this wonderful time for you.

How good it is to welcome a new person into our family, and under such exciting circumstances - though I am sure you suffered a lot of anxiety during the process. But look at the results of your efforts!!!! Wish all hard work and dedication held such rewards - this one is for a lifetime...

Will be waiting to hear about you all settling in, and to hear the new adventures of Phoebe!!!! Enjoy, be happy, and be healthy - what joy you have to look forward to!!!!!!

Love ya'
Phyllis
